Key Stage 3

English tuition during KS3 lays the foundations for GCSE success, embedding key skills, boosting confidence and nourishing interest, that will hopefully become a lifelong passion for the English language and our array of literary greats from Shakespeare to modern classics. In English language tutorials, we cover an extensive variety of fiction and non-fiction texts, from literary extracts to newspaper articles, exploring the power of language and its effects and encouraging insightful analysis, creative thinking and personal responses. In English Literature, we cover extracts from a wide range of classic literature and poetry. Bespoke courses can also be booked such as “An Introduction to Shakespeare”, with a focus on developing critical reading skills by exploring language techniques and their effects, themes and characterisation as well as developing inference skills and selecting appropriate textual evidence. Once students develop this range of skills, they will be able to apply them independently to exam texts.
